The St. Petersburg homeowner noticed a musty smell in a closet behind a bathroom. With the musty smell, they figured that there was a problem with moisture or humidity in the closet. The St. Petersburg homeowner decided to buy a bucket of damp rid to help absorb some of the moisture. If you have to buy damp rid to place anywhere inside of your home, there is a humidity or moisture problem. Damp rid is designed for garages, basements, etc. Damp rid should not have to be used inside of Florida homes. As it turns out, this particular issue was being caused by a small water leak on the tub drain. Leak detection can be a frustrating process and must be performed by a team of professionals. Once a water leak occurs, it can lead to water damage and mold growth. As you can see in the pictures below, mold growth formed on the back of the closet walls adjacent to where the leak occurred.

I Destroy Mold was called to remove black mold found behind kitchen cabinets when our IDL Construction division was performing a kitchen remodel. A small water leak on the kitchen faucet caused water to leak behind the kitchen cabinets. This small amount of water saturated the wall behind the cabinets which resulted in a large amount of black mold growth. This mold growth was accelerated by the high humidity in the Clearwater and Tampa Bay area. Since the walls were not allowed an opportunity to dry, the black mold spores found a food source and began to reproduce and form a colony. This black mold must be removed by following certain procedures in order to ensure it does not return, and it doesn’t spread through the rest of the Clearwater Beach property. As you can see in the pictures below, the mold removal process was successful when we finished the mold removal project.
A Brandon home accumulated a large amount of black mold after sitting vacant for several months. The Brandon Florida home you see in the pictures below was foreclosed on several months ago. The previous owners of this Brandon Florida home took the AC system with them when they vacated the property. AC systems in the Tampa Bay area serve two purposes for indoor air quality. The first purpose is to cool the indoor air temperature. The second purpose is to remove humidity from the air of Tampa Bay area homes and businesses. Without the AC unit running, humidity will build up inside of Florida homes. Once the humidity starts building, condensate will form on building materials such as ceilings, walls and floors. This condensate is the perfect food source for black mold. When we entered this home, it appeared that the walls and ceilings were camouflage with all of the mold growth. As you can see in the pictures below, there are many types of species of mold growing in this property in addition to black mold. This home will undergo an extensive black mold removal process.

A Clearwater condo owner contacted us in regards to a large amount of black mold discovered in their residence. This particular Clearwater residence lives in the Clearwater area part time. They reside the summers in the north, and the winters in the south. Upon returning to their Clearwater condo, they found a large amount of black mold growth in the AC / water heater closet. The AC system clogged and the AC condensate line began leaking. This small water leak saturated the area in the water heater closet. The AC system has an automatic shut off valve on it which in turn shut the AC system down. This caused the humidity in this Clearwater condo to skyrocket. Once humidity is elevated in Florida and Tampa Bay area residences, mold begins to grow at an accelerated rate. We will be performing a black mold removal project on this Clearwater condo to make it habitable again.
A St. Petersburg contractor found black mold behind kitchen cabinets and in an adjacent living room wall while performing a kitchen remodel project. Black mold is a very common issue in St. Petersburg since the humidity is so high here in Florida. After a small water leak, black mold can easily form and grow in areas of your St. Petersburg property where you cannot see it. If you find black mold in the Tampa Bay area, we advise you to cover the black mold to try and contain it until a licensed mold removal contractor can arrive to properly remove the mold. In this case, the St. Petersburg contractor used plastic to cover the mold until we arrived. Once black mold is disturbed it can release spores that will easily spread to other areas of Tampa Bay homes if not contained immediately.
